The First Presidency has requested …. that Church leaders “identify, locate, and assume shepherding responsibility for all young single adults” residing in their units (First Presidency letter April 10, 2009).
Becoming acquainted with the circumstances of the young single adults in our Stake and then ministering to the individuals one by one just as the Savior does is an important goal of our Stake Leadership.
“The pure love of Christ .... allowing us to see others the way our Heavenly Father sees us: as flawed and imperfect mortals who have potential and worth far beyond our capacity to imagine.”
President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, The Merciful Obtain Mercy, April 2002 General Conference
On May 9, 2021, the First Presidency announced a new initiative for selected YSA Stakes and our Stake has been given special permission to participate in this important initiative!
Your participation in this questionnaire tool is part of a special pilot initiative sanctioned by the First Presidency for our Stake. Please participate!
The new YSA ministering tools that have been rolled out within our Stake are designed to identify each young single adult’s areas of interest/need and can help our stake leaders provide an association through enhanced events and activities. It is vitally important that each member of our stake complete the questionnaire!
The program of Ministering helps us make sure all Church members have a friend they can lean on in times of need. Ministering helps us follow Jesus’s example of how to love our neighbor as ourselves. We visit each other, pray for each other, serve each other, and comfort each other. Ministering is learning about and attending to others’ needs. It is doing the Lord’s work. When we minister, we are representing Jesus Christ and acting as His agents to watch over, lift, and strengthen those around us.
“We build [relationships] one person at a time,” said Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. As we strive to build meaningful relationships with those we minister to, the Holy Ghost can guide us. President Ezra Taft Benson (1989–1994) taught, “You can’t serve well those you don’t know well.”
Solicited by the Church's Public Affairs Department and Global Communication Network, this article provides a handy overview of how the tools are being implemented and selected feedback from participants thus far in the implementation process.
