Church members belong to congregations based on where they live (see Mosiah 25:17–24). These congregations are necessary for organizing and doing the work of the Church under the proper priesthood authority. Leaders of congregations are given priesthood keys to authorize the performance of priesthood ordinances. Congregations also help members strengthen each other’s faith as they worship God, learn the teachings of Jesus Christ, and serve. Young single adults can contribute significantly to the kingdom of God. They also bring unique perspectives and experiences that can bless and strengthen all Church members. They can serve in any calling in the stake except bishop, stake president, or stake patriarch. For more information visit this link!
For more information on the criteria for participating in a Young Single Adult Ward, see the General Handbook of Instructions (Section 14 - Single Members)
“Young single adults” refers to those single members of the Church ages 18–35.
YSA units provide opportunities for young single adults to worship together and to participate in the work of salvation and exaltation among fellow Saints at a similar stage in life (see Ephesians 4:13). In these units, young single adults gather regularly to worship God, develop faith in Jesus Christ, receive ordinances, socialize, and find strength during spiritual and temporal challenges (see Moroni 6:4–6).
Most single members attend geographic wards. As an exception, where many single members live in close proximity to each other, priesthood leaders may recommend creating Young Single Adult units. A young single adult ward is specifically established for those ages 18–35. A young single adult stake is comprised of wards for those ages 18-35. There are currently five Young Single Adult Stakes in the Greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Mesa has two YSA Stakes and 12 YSA Wards to support those ages 18-35.
Eligible members may choose to be members of the young single adult ward, where available. Or they can choose to be members of their geographic ward. Membership in a young single adult ward is temporary:
When a single member marries, he or she becomes a member of a geographic ward.
When transitioning between wards, the member and his or her leaders communicate with the leaders of the geographic ward. Leaders of the new ward are assigned to minister to brothers and sisters. They plan for a calling or assignment that helps the member feel welcome and engaged in the work of the ward.
Individuals who are between the ages of 18 to 35 years of age are welcome to join the Ward where they reside in the Mesa YSA East Stake. Periodically, the YSA East Stake will hold open house or orientation activities with special invitations to graduating high school seniors.
Use the maps below to help you determine which of the YSA Wards you reside in, within our Mesa YSA East Stake. Then using this website, you can click on the Ward webpage to learn more about that ward, when and where they meet, and how to contact the Ward Leadership.
