Dear YSA East Stake Young Single Adults,
As a Stake Presidency, we are very excited for the upcoming Mesa Temple Open House and Rededication. It will be a great blessing to have our Temple open again after the long three-year remodel. The Open House will be a historic event, which will be the 3rd in the 94-year history of the temple. It has been 47 years since the last Open House and more than 400,000 visitors are expected to tour the temple from October 16th – November 20th.
Once you are confirmed as an Usher/Worker, there will be a mandatory training and orientation meeting that you will need to attend. Upon registration, the Temple Rededication Committee will notify you when this meeting will be held and provide additional details to help you be prepared. This will be a very special experience and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in!
Registration information and online forms can be found at this link: https://mesatemple.org/stake-registration or click the picture of the Christus statue above.
If you have questions after reviewing the registration site, please contact the MESA ARIZONA TEMPLE OPEN HOUSE AND REDEDICATION COMMITTEE at openhouseworkers@mesatemple.org.
Sincerely,
The Mesa YSA East Stake Presidency
Dear Sisters & Brothers,
Four years ago on Good Friday, Sister Heap and I lost our sweet little granddaughter Holly. She would have been 8 years old now and preparing for baptism. Each year since that terrible day, Good Friday and the Easter weekend have brought greater peace and hope to our family, with increased gratitude for our Savior and greater understanding of His sacred Atonement and Resurrection.
As a Stake Presidency, we testify that Jesus Christ was crucified on Good Friday and that He rose from the dead on the third day. That dark afternoon of His crucifixion was soon followed by the joyous morning of His Resurrection. Mary Magdalene and a few other women came early to the Savior’s tomb that Sunday morning, bringing spices and ointments to complete the anointing that had begun when the Lord’s body was hastily laid in the sepulchre before the approaching Sabbath. On this morning of mornings, they were greeted to their surprise by an open sepulchre. The covering stone had been rolled away and there stood two angels who declared:
“Why seek ye the living among the dead?”
“He is not here, but is risen”
Upon hearing this, some of the women hurried to report it to the Apostles stating, “They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.”
Mary Magdalene remained behind crying, when someone tenderly asked her, “Woman, why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou?” She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, “Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.”
One word from His lips changed her agonized grief into ecstatic joy. Jesus saith unto her, “Mary”. His voice, the tone, the tender accent which she had heard and loved in the earlier days, lifted her from despair. Then she reached out her arms to embrace Him, uttering “Rabboni”, meaning Master. (Reference John 20: 1-18, Matthew 29)
The world questions, Did the Lord in reality die and rise again? Joseph Smith stated, “Yes, the fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; and all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it.”
This coming Easter is on General Conference Sunday. Let us all take the opportunity to listen to our Prophet and Apostles as they share their testimonies of the Risen Lord, Jesus Christ. We testify that as Jesus Christ becomes the focus of our lives we will truly come to know Him as our Savior and our lives will be richly blessed.
We invite you to listen to the beautiful song, "I Am the Resurrection and the Life" by Rob Gardner on the YouTube link below and wish you a joyous Easter weekend.
With Love,
The YSA Mesa East Stake Presidency

December 2020
Each year at Christmas we marvel at the glorious event of the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. We gladly share our testimonies of the Savior's birth, His life, His ministry, and His mission in mortality.
President Thomas S Monson shared that there is no better time than now, this very Christmas season, for all of us to rededicate ourselves to the principles taught by Jesus Christ.
Because He came to earth, we have a perfect example to follow. As we strive to become more like Him, we will have joy and happiness in our lives and peace each day of the year.
Because He came, there is meaning to our mortal existence.
Because He came, we know how to reach out to those in trouble or distress, wherever they may be.
Because He came, death has lost its sting, the grave its victory. We will live again because He came.
Because He came and paid for our sins, we have the opportunity to gain eternal life.
Considering all that the Savior has done and continues to do for us, the question is,
“What can we do for Him?”
“The greatest gift we could give the Lord at Christmas time is found in John 14:15, “If Ye Love Me Keep My Commandments.” And in John 14:26-27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid.”
True joy is a life centered in Jesus Christ.
As we strive to become more like the Savior, we will have joy and happiness in our lives and peace each day of the year. May His precious Spirit be with you, and may He ever be the center of our celebrations and indeed of our very lives.
Merry Christmas,
The Mesa Arizona YSA East Stake Presidency

December 17 - 19th
December 24th
Buckle up! We'll be partying with the Mesa West YSA and Tempe West YSA stakes for a Tri-Stake New Year's Eve party! More details on this party are provided below!
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The long-awaited day of the Mesa Temple Rededication with President Dallin H. Oaks presiding will occur this Sunday, December 12th. Please consider how you can prepare spiritually to make this day a memorable spiritual experience. You may want to learn about temple dedicatory prayers and review the Mesa Temple 1927 and 1975 Dedicatory Prayers.
We ask that you carefully review the guidelines below from the First Presidency:
There will be three Temple Rededication Broadcasts at the Red Mountain Institute Building on Sunday, December 12, at 9:00 am, 12:00 noon, and 3:00 pm. Our Red Mountain Institute building will be considered an extension of the temple during these broadcasts and temple procedures will be enforced.
All members must show either a current temple recommend or a limited-use recommend to attend. Please remember to bring your temple recommend to the RMI building. Each recommend will be verified at entrances to the building.
Members attending the dedicatory session should be in their seats 30 minutes before the session begins. The RMI doors will be open 45 minutes prior to the start of the Temple Rededication Broadcast. For example, for the 9:00 am broadcast, doors will open at 8:15 am, and you should be in your seat by 8:30 am. Doors will close at the start of the broadcast, and no late arrivals will be allowed. Individuals arriving late will be encouraged to attend the next available dedicatory session.
Only the East and West Foyer doors will be used. All other entrances or exits to the building will be locked and Stake Leadership will be positioned at these doors to provide security under the direction of Brother Clint Smith of the High Council.
Please bring a white handkerchief for participation in the Hosanna Shout.
Each of the three Temple Rededication Broadcasts will have different speakers and choirs. Members with a recommend are welcome to attend any or all of the sessions.
Sacrament meeting and all other Church meetings are canceled on Sunday, December 12.
A special Youth Devotional with President Dallin H. Oaks will be broadcast on Saturday, December 11, at 6:00 pm. This meeting is Especially For Youth and will NOT be broadcast at the RMI building. Any individuals interested in attending this meeting will need to attend at a Stake Center of their choice.
The dedicatory sessions are a unique spiritual experience and one that many members of our Stake will remember with fondness for their entire life. We encourage you to prepare for this special event and the spirit that will be in attendance in abundance.
With love and gratitude,
The Mesa Az YSA East Stake Presidency

For only the third time since its construction in the 1920s, the Mesa Temple will be open for public tours for a limited time between Oct. 16 and Nov. 20, 2021. Visitors can enjoy the temple grounds and gardens year-round, but this is a rare opportunity to COME INSIDE where you’ll experience beautiful architecture, inspiring murals, handcrafted woodwork, masonry, art, and other finishes becoming this sacred building. Everyone is welcome. To register for the open house, click this link or the picture below: https://mesatemple.org/open-house/
Registration for Stake Assignment Open House Workers (Tier 3) is now underway! The following opportunities to serve are available:
Stake members, 18 and older, may register to serve one 4-hour shift on the assigned day at https://mesatemple.org/stake-registration
The links must be followed to register as they are not accessible from the mesatemple.org website. The members of our stake should follow the links to a registration page where your stake will be in a selection list. Members will select the shift they desire and will only be able to sign up for the stake’s designated day(s). Our Mesa YSA East Stake designated days are Friday, November 12th, and a shift on Saturday, November 20th! Members may sign up for more than one shift by registering a second time.
There are 31 days for the Public Open House and only 29 stakes within the temple district. Some stakes have been assigned an additional day and/or an additional 4-hour shift on a different day. Also, the YSA stakes are grouped together to provide workers on November 20, the last day of the Open House.
The total number of stake Tier 3 workers is limited. Worker approval is based on temple worthiness, age requirements, and physical activity requirements. Once volunteers have signed up using this link https://mesatemple.org/stake-registration the Stake will be notified and execute the approval process for each volunteer.
Thank you for your continued faith and support as we prepare for the opening of the Mesa Arizona Temple.

Have you ever thought about what you would do if your car broke down in the desert? Want to go hiking but are afraid you might get lost or stranded? Even Lehi and his family had to make a trek across the desert and learn to survive (1 Nephi 2:2-6)!
Our next round of Institute classes begins Tuesday, August 10th, and will run for 3 weeks! On Tuesdays, we'll be learning about surviving in the desert and key skills that could mean the difference between success or failure! We're even going camping as part of this class to test our skills!
Chad Slemboski is a Life Coach with Crossroads Discovery and has been a Trail walker with the Anasazi Fountain for three years. He is experienced in minimalistic backcountry guiding and first aid. Additionally, Chad is the founder of Haven: Spiritual Health, and a novelist.
Ethan Johnson is an expert on camping ever since starting scouts at the age of 11, with this really getting refined as he worked as a trail walker for the Anasazi foundation over the past 3 years. His newfound niche there is teaching the basics of wilderness survival to new clients (which are typically 12-17-year-old kids), so he is confident he can teach you a couple of things too!

As you can see from the photo, we had a great turnout at our first class! Thanks to everyone who is joining us for this very informative self-reliance course! We are prepping for our "Bug Out Camp Out"! Would you like to join us?
We've really put a lot into this class, and we want it to be well attended. More than that, it is crucial for our YSA to start preparing for that which is to come. As we learned in last week's Come Follow Me lesson in D&C 45, we live in perilous times.
Here are the details of the class:
Brother Scott Giles, a seasoned emergency preparedness specialist, will teach the class.
The class will run from Wednesday, May 12 to Wednesday, May 26. Each class will be held at the RMI at 7 pm.
We will learn about water storage and sanitation, food storage, how to make a shelter, and what to put into your 72-hour kit.
The goal of the class will be to come out with a 72-hour kit. YSAs will need to purchase their own 72-hour kit supplies.
From the afternoon/evening of June 4th to the evening of June 5th, we will travel up to the Arizona mountains and spend a night living out of our 72-hour kits!

The Stake Sports & Athletics Committee is excited to announce the return of Softball. Check this site frequently for schedule updates and more news!
The YSA East Stake is excited to resume sports at Cooley Family Park. The Cooley Park Scheduling Coordinator is requiring a few rules in order to use their facility:
We must split the groups between two fields and play games at 7pm and 8pm to limit the number of people at each field and the number at the park at any one time.
Players will wear face masks while in the dugout area, where they are in close proximity to each other. Same is recommended for those in the bleachers.
They will not be using the serving area, nor creating a central serving area where folks gather.
Should any event become a virus spreader event it will cause the entire park to be closed again until much later in the year.
Remember, only 4 teams will be allowed into the park at a time. Four teams will play at 7pm and the other four teams will play at 8pm. We are scheduled at the park for ten weeks (ends April 29th).
Regularly and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water or clean them with an alcohol-based hand rub.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick (this may include avoiding shaking hands or other customary greetings).
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Maintain at least six feet (two meters) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
Follow public health agency recommendations for using a face mask.
